THE REAL BIO

MATT GRESETH
I got my start in theatre at the age of 10. My middle school music teacher almost forced me to go to an audition for the musical Oliver. I got the lead role and never looked back. I spent quite some time trying to find a career that would actually pay my bills, but in the end I knew in my heart that theatre would be my career.
I got an undergraduate degree in acting from the University of North Dakota and then went on to the University of Montana where I earned a Masters in directing.
I then moved to Los Angeles and tried to start a theatre company based in Santa Monica. While I was there I learned two things. That I hate Los Angeles and that I was truly interested in theatre as opposed to film and TV. I decided to move to a city where theatre took priority over film.
I started working with USP in 2005 when Aaron hired me to direct his production of Livelihood. For years now my goal has been to help build a theatre company that is well known for producing and premiering new works. That is what really gets me going as a director. Presenting something to an audience that is new and interesting, whether it be an original piece or a conceptualization of a proven work.
I know very few people that are happy with their chosen career. I consider myself blessed everyday that I am indeed one of those people. Thank you to all of you who have supported USP in the past. I know that all of us really appreciate it, but for me personally your support allows me to live my dream. What a wonderful gift. What a wonderful life.
Thank you again.
